Insurance Coverage

TPS is not in-network with any health insurance. However, we're able to provide superbills with the appropriate codes that you can submit to your insurance if you have out-of-network insurance. We recommend using Nirvana, a reimbursement calculator, to check what your out-of-network benefits are. Alternatively, you can call your insurance company and use the below questions as a guide:

It is a good idea to keep a record of the date of your call and the name of the person you spoke with.

  • Do I have an out-of-network plan for outpatient mental health treatment?

  • If so, do I have an annual deductible? If yes, how much is left to meet before coverage begins?

  • Once my deductible is met, what percentage of my bill will be paid by the insurance company?

  • Is the percentage of my bill paid by the insurance company based on usual, customary, and reasonable (UCR) schedules or on the actual charges? If it's based on UCR, what is that fee for the state of NY?

  • Does my policy have an out-of-pocket maximum? If my out-of-pocket expenses reach a certain amount, will the insurance carrier ever reimburse at 100 percent? If so, does this mean that my claims will then be paid in full, or will I still be responsible for the difference between my therapist’s charges and usual, customary, and reasonable (UCR) rates?

Cancellation Policy

Once you find a mutually agreed upon appointment time(s), it is expected that you will be present for your appointments. We request 24 hours' notice for cancellation. All cancellations under 24 hours notice will be charged for the session. At TPS, therapists hold a weekly scheduled appointment time specifically for you. This provides consistency and dedicated attention. Therefore it is difficult for therapists to fill a session with short notice. With advanced notice, therapists will try to find another time to reschedule sessions. If your cancellation is due to having COVID or a medical emergency where you're too ill to meet remotely, we will still need to charge for our time, but will do our best to find another time to meet. once you've recovered, when possible.

Missed or canceled sessions are often inevitable. Life can get in the way of our best intentions. Yet, cancellations can sometimes highlight important work being uncovered in the treatment. Therapy can be hard work and temporary relief of feeling better can sometimes lead to wanting a break from treatment. Moments of feeling good can lead to very rich sessions, speaking about successes and strength are just as important as moments where we struggle. Sometimes when a session feels difficult or touches on an important topic, it can feel easier to skip a week or put off a session. It is most helpful to your well-being to be reflective when that cancellation urge arises and bring this up with your therapist.
